Email Marketing
Email marketing is the channel that drives sales and customer loyalty by sending segmented campaigns and automated messages to a list of people who have given consent. Digitruva manages the channel from consent setup through deliverability checks to measurement.
Get a QuoteWhat do we deliver in email marketing?
Email marketing delivers a consent audit, delivery infrastructure, segmentation, automation flows, campaign management and measurement. Software is only a tool. We take on the day-to-day operation and work in your existing platform.
Consent and list audit
We review where each record came from, its consent status and its match in İYS, Türkiye's Message Management System. The report shows which records need to be separated out. This is operational work and does not replace legal advice.
Delivery infrastructure
We check the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records of your sending domain. Bounces, complaints and sender reputation are monitored.
Segmentation plan
The list is split by purchase history, site behavior and interests. The plan spells out which message goes to which audience and how often.
Automation flows
We set up welcome, abandoned cart, post-purchase and win-back flows. On the B2B side, we design nurture flows.
Campaign and newsletter management
We prepare the send calendar, subject lines and mobile-friendly templates. Every send is tested before it goes out.
Measurement
A UTM structure and GA4 conversions are tied to each campaign. Clicks, conversions, revenue and list health are reported.
What do SPF, DKIM and DMARC verify?
All three are defined in the sending domain's DNS records and show the receiving server that a message really came from you. The Gmail sender guidelines require at least SPF or DKIM from all senders.
| SPF | DKIM | DMARC | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it verifies | The servers authorized to send on behalf of the domain | That the message was not altered in transit, using a signature | That the SPF and DKIM results align with the visible From address |
| Where it is defined | As a TXT record in DNS | A key generated by the sending platform is published in DNS | As a TXT record named _dmarc in DNS |
| If it fails | The message may be treated as suspicious | The signature cannot be verified, and the message may be treated as suspicious | Depending on the defined policy, the message is monitored, quarantined or rejected |
| Additional role | On its own, it does not protect the visible From address | Ties the domain's reputation to the message | Collects authentication reports from receiving servers |
For domains that send in bulk, Gmail requires all three together, plus one-click unsubscribe in marketing messages.
Which records does a consent audit check?
The audit shows where and when each record's consent was obtained, whether it has a match in İYS and whether the opt-out path works. This is an operational check and does not replace legal advice.
- The record's source: a form, point of sale, event or imported list
- The date consent was obtained and the consent wording, stored in a way that can serve as proof
- Whether the consent matches the records in the Message Management System
- Recipient type: an individual consumer, or merchants and tradespeople
- Whether the opt-out link works in every message and opt-outs are applied to the list
- Whether the privacy notice is presented at the point where the record is collected
- Whether purchased addresses or addresses of unknown origin are separated from the list
The rules are set by Law No. 6563 and the regulation on commercial electronic messages. Implementation decisions are made with your legal counsel.
Which automation flow does which job?
An automation is a message sequence that sends on its own in response to a recipient's behavior. Each flow's trigger, purpose and success metric are written down before setup.
| Trigger | Purpose | Success metric | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Welcome | Signing up for the list | Introduce the brand and lead to a first purchase | First click and first conversion |
| Abandoned cart | Adding a product to the cart without completing checkout | Get the unfinished purchase completed | Recovered orders and revenue |
| Post-purchase | A completed order | Share how-to information and ask for a review and a repeat purchase | Repeat purchases |
| Win-back | No engagement for a long time | Gauge interest again and weed out disengaged records | A new click or an unsubscribe |
| B2B nurture | A content download or form submission | Keep the prospect informed until they are ready to decide | Qualified leads and sales meetings |
How is sender reputation protected?
Reputation comes from what recipients do with your messages. That is why send volume starts with active recipients, and complaints and bounces are monitored regularly.
- Gradual volume
- On a new domain or platform, sending starts with the most engaged recipients, and volume increases based on results.
- Complaint rate
- Gmail asks senders to keep the spam complaint rate low and defines the thresholds in its sender guidelines. The rate is tracked in Postmaster Tools.
- Bounces
- Addresses that permanently cannot receive mail are removed from the list and not retried.
- Disengaged records
- Records that have not clicked in a long time first go into a win-back flow, and if they do not respond, they are removed from sends.
- Easy unsubscribe
- Leaving the list takes a single step, because recipients who cannot unsubscribe hit the spam button.
What shapes the scope of an email marketing proposal?
Scope, timeline and revisions are set in writing in the proposal. The proposal is prepared after reviewing your current list and platform, based on the factors below.
- The size of the list and the number of signup sources
- The current state of consent records and their İYS match
- The sending platform in use and any e-commerce or CRM integrations
- The number of automation flows to set up and how much they branch
- Template needs: adapting existing templates or new designs
- Send frequency and who handles content production
- Reporting scope and the status of the GA4 connection
What gets resolved before the first send?
Consent setup and sender authentication records are sorted out before anything is sent, and only then is volume increased in a controlled way.
Audit
We review the list, consent records, platform and past campaigns, and identify the priority flows.
Setup
Domain authentication, consent setup, segments, measurement and templates are prepared.
Launch
Priority automations are switched on, the calendar starts and send volume increases in a controlled way.
Improvement
A/B tests are run, disengaged records are cleaned out and results feed back into the calendar.
Who gets the most out of email marketing?
It fits teams that have a list but are not using the channel to its full potential.
- Brands that have a list but cannot send consistently
- E-commerce sites that want to set up abandoned cart and repeat purchase flows
- B2B companies that want to nurture prospects through a long sales cycle
- Businesses with scattered consent records that want to get the KVKK (Türkiye's Personal Data Protection Law) and İYS side of things in order
- Teams that pay for software but only send bulk newsletters
Getting started with email marketing: common questions
What is email marketing?
Email marketing is the practice of sending campaigns, newsletters and automated messages through your own list to people who have given permission. It is also called mail marketing or e-mail marketing.
Unlike social media, you reach the audience through your own list rather than through a platform algorithm. There are three core types of sends: a campaign that goes out on a set date, a regular newsletter and automation triggered by user behavior.
Newsletter topics are often drawn from the same calendar as newsletter content production. The value of the method lies not in the number of sends but in getting the right message to the right person.
How do you get started with email marketing?
You get started with email marketing by building a permission-based list, splitting it into segments and sending each segment messages that fit it. The first step is consent and list hygiene, because sending to problematic records from the start carries both compliance and deliverability risk.
In its sender guidelines, Google also advises against buying addresses from other companies and recommends sending only to recipients who signed up. Next, the sending domain is authenticated, templates are built and the measurement setup is put in place. Sending starts with active recipients, and volume increases gradually.
Digitruva first audits where records came from, their consent status and their match with İYS, Türkiye's Message Management System, then rolls out priority automations. Subject lines and send times are tested with A/B tests, and the results feed into the next calendar.
How do KVKK and İYS affect email marketing?
The two cover different ground. KVKK, Türkiye's Personal Data Protection Law, governs the processing of personal data, while Law No. 6563 on electronic commerce governs commercial electronic messages. İYS is the system where consent and opt-out records are kept.
The duty to provide a privacy notice applies even where explicit consent is not required. In decisions of the Personal Data Protection Board, bundling marketing consent with other purposes in a single text and making it a precondition of service has been found unacceptable. On the messaging side, the basic rule is prior consent.
The burden of proving consent falls on the sender, and consent and opt-out records must be kept in sync with İYS. When an opt-out request comes in, sending must stop within the period the legislation sets. Check current deadlines against the regulation text and İYS announcements. This general information is not a substitute for legal advice.
Which emails don't require commercial electronic message consent?
The legislation defines certain cases that fall outside the prior consent requirement. Messages about the use and maintenance of goods or services already purchased, and notices about subscriptions, payments and deliveries, may fall into this category.
Adding promotional content to such a message, however, can void the exemption. Separate rules also apply to recipients who are merchants and tradespeople, but these recipients' İYS registration and right to opt out still need to be checked.
Whether a person counts as a merchant is not always clear from the list. In Board decision No. 2022/861, the Personal Data Protection Board stated that lawyers cannot be considered merchants or tradespeople and that a business email address found online is not thereby available for marketing. So recipient type must be verified record by record. The exemption is decided per message type, not applied to the whole list. Before acting, consult the current regulation text and your legal counsel.
How do SPF, DKIM and DMARC affect email deliverability?
If the records are missing or misconfigured, messages may land in spam instead of the inbox or may not be accepted at all. The SPF, DKIM and DMARC table on this page summarizes what each record verifies.
The Gmail sender guidelines require SPF or DKIM from everyone who sends to Gmail. Senders of 5,000 or more messages a day need SPF, DKIM and DMARC together, and marketing messages must also offer one-click unsubscribe. The spam rate should never reach 0.30% and should ideally stay below 0.10%.
The records alone do not guarantee the inbox, because list quality and recipient engagement also shape sender reputation. When you change sending platforms, the DKIM key is regenerated, so the records should be updated before the migration.
How do you measure the success of an email marketing campaign?
Measurement should center on clicks, conversions, revenue and list health, not open rate. Because of privacy features, open data does not fully reflect real reading, and Google states in its Gmail guidelines that it does not track open rates.
To see the contribution on the website, links are tagged with campaign URL parameters such as utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. The utm_content parameter can separate two links in the same email. Values should be consistent and lowercase, because differences in capitalization split the reports.
Digitruva connects this setup to GA4 conversions and also tracks bounces, complaints and unsubscribes. If the landing page after the click is weak, work on raising email conversions comes next.
